Foundation is ResoluteAI’s secure research platform providing exploration, search, analytics, and alerts on over a dozen science-focused databases. Nebula is ResoluteAI’s answer to enterprise search for science, applying structured metadata, and a range of AI capabilities to institutional knowledge. ResoluteAI is used in R&D, medical affairs, post-market surveillance, and pharmacovigilance by scientific organizations around the world.
It is essential that Resolute.AI’s new users quickly understand how to access and use the search and analytics functions to get started with the platform.
In light of this, Senior Product Manager Eléonore Dixon-Roche had a backlog of interface updates needing implementation, with the goal of creating a home page. It was important to create an uncluttered interface that would still display ResoluteAI’s datasets and instructional material for search/analytics capabilities.
She was using a popular prototyping tool to build sketches of her ideas, but due to more pressing bugs and features pertaining to core functionality, the UI updates had to take a backseat. She also faced the issue that the extent of effort required for her changes was unclear because they were based only on mock-ups and hypothetical conversations. This made them difficult to schedule among many other clearly-scoped projects. The small team was extremely busy, so they had to be ruthless and strategic in their prioritization, and UI updates did not make the cut.

Moving to a Genuine UI-based Design
Eléonore understood that the key was to show stakeholders how much these UI changes would improve the user experience, and Candu was the answer for this challenge. Without coding, Eléonore used Candu to move her mock-ups into the Resolute app on a staging page to show how her designs would function within the interface.
Using Candu’s card template, Eléonore redesigned the initial user experience and created a clean home page to help users get started--as opposed to landing on a random page within the platform devoid of context and guidance. This met the goal of enabling new users to immediately understand what databases were available for search and get started quickly, without confusion.
Great Mock-Ups Lead to Green Lights
After building a Candu version of the cards for search and analytics, Eléonore presented them to the dev team. Seeing the significant UI improvement that would result in the product, coupled with how little time it would take to actually make these changes, they implemented a home page based on her design, and it was ready within a day.
This turnaround was due to Candu’s advantage as a validation mechanism. Whereas most tools enable the making of a passive sketch, Candu provides the ability to construct a product design to an “almost live” status in order to show exactly how it looks and functions in-app. Candu solves the disconnect between the value that a product manager wants to show and what a small, busy team can feasibly do. It makes a hypothetical demo into a real product, and since Candu content can actually be published in-app quickly, it changes the conversation from, “should we build this?” to, “how should we implement this?”
Going forward, Candu will continue providing value to ResoluteAI. Eléonore is excited to use it both as a prototyping tool for future product conversations and for publishing instructional and onboarding content. These features should not be engineering-owned because they will need constant changes and therefore require unnecessary engineering work. Candu’s intuitive interface and page elements optimize the entire iteration process, even when the dev team needs to be called in at some point.
